Farmhouse Style with Amanda Griffith

We are excited to introduce Farmhouse Style with Amanda Griffith! Amanda is a native Virginian (and a Virginia Tech fanatic). She lives in Fauquier County with her husband John and three daughters. Amanda teaches 4th grade and works on her home in her free time. Every home she has lived in has become a renovation project. She and her husband work as a team, Amanda coming up with the design and John taking care of the carpentry work. They take an average builder grade home and turn it into a Farmhouse dream.

Amanda and her family recently built a house in Warrenton. It is an adorable farm house with plenty of land but the house is still a blank slate. They are excited to come up with designs for each space in their new home. We are excited to be on this journey with them chronicling their experience each step of the way.

The kitchen upgrade

When she starts a project Amanda first decides what she does NOT like in a room. Then she searches Pinterest boards for broad categories such as a paint color for a master bedroom or shelves in a half bath. That gives her a jumping off point. Amanda saves pictures that inspire her to her phone then lets them sit for a week. When she gets back to them she decides if she really likes them or if they would even work in that space.

Their next project is going to be the master bedroom. She currently has six accent wall pictures saved for the room and she loves something about each of them. She keeps flipping back and forth about want she wants to do in that space. We can’t wait to see the finished bedroom!

Amanda also like to think budget and long term. Her husband loves an affordable and simple fix so she tries things like art and pillows first. A frame color or a new doorknob can change a whole room. She finds small things that they can do on their own, like using sconces that plug into a wall rather than having to get an electrician involved. Because she changes things in her home around frequently, she likes to have decor that can easily move from one room to another.

With three kids Amanda likes a functional space and family friendly home. She definitely thinks of her style as Farmhouse, and because they live on land the farm chic style fits. In their new home she has been branching out a little, she still does shiplap but with color and she mixes modern decor with antique accents. Her favorite stores are Target, Home Goods and Amazon.
